BuildUPspeed

Introducing a Market Activation Platform to speed up Deep Renovation of EU building stock,
enhanced by attractive, high quality Industrialized Solutions produced in
pop-up factories, offering evidence-based performances.

Background

Deep renovation is crucial for European buildings to meet the 2050 decarbonization targets. However, numerous barriers on both the supply and demand sides hinder building retrofit from scaling up effectively in both the private and public sectors. Several projects have already developed innovative solutions for deep renovation as part of the EU Renovation Wave, offering comprehensive people-centered approaches that involve the entire value chain. Despite this progress, a major obstacle remains: the lack of market uptake strategies to leverage the technical and non-technical solutions developed over the past years. This challenge is critical for both policy and market perspectives. To tackle this issue, the BuildUPspeed project aims to address the current gap by harnessing the power of industrialization in the building industry.

The project aims at:

  • conducting an inventory of end-user needs, actors, stakeholders, material and energy flows, buildings, spaces and innovative solutions for the renovation local contexts, defined ecosystems.
  • digitalizing the key outputs, making them appealing and easily accessible to end-users through a virtual Market Activation Hub on an online open-source platform that can bring together supply and demand, defining the market for modular deep-renovation products and concepts.
  • Introducing and testing the concept of Local ‘Pop-up’ factories, being temporary or mobile production facilities able to adapt to the renovation needs of the local ecosystem in the 6 Countries.
  • providing attractive and understandable information on evidence-based performances of renovated buildings to users and owners, showcasing the potential of industrialized solutions in reducing the performance gap.
